Upgrades that Pay Off

Putting stone in your home is a huge investment, but it does make a difference. Whether you’re remodeling to sell or you plan to stay a while, stone can increase value. Find out what’s most effective when it comes to adding value with stone.

Real Estate Pro magazine interviewed seasoned real estate professionals and they all agreed that exterior stone veneers influenced buyers to think a home was worth more than it actually was. A stone veneer on the exterior of your home might just help you sell it for a higher price.

Buyers want a finished, updated look and a stone façade does just that.  The neutral colors in stone allow for other updates in the future like to siding or brick.

Not only do you add value with a great look, but you also increase durability. Stacked stone is an excellent exterior material when installed correctly.

Countertops and Vanities

Stone countertops in the kitchen and vanities in the bathroom definitely add value to a home especially if you are replacing something dated, old, or in need of repair. There is a high amount of value in all things beautiful and stone surfaces are one of the easiest ways to achieve that.

Granite is a favorite and looks especially nice in classic designs. If you want to add something a little more contemporary, take a look at exotic granites or consider another stone like quartzite.

Quartzite is gaining popularity quickly with homeowners and offers the look of marble with the durability of granite so it gives you the best of both worlds.

Stone in the Bathroom

Consider natural stone in the bathroom. It is a high traffic area that requires durability but gets overlooked for stone applications. Updated, premium bathrooms sell a house just as frequently as a fabulous kitchen so give some attention to selecting natural stone for your design.

You can really get creative with stone in the bathroom. Use it to install shower seats, decorative inlays, or put it on the backsplash.

Bonus Room

Bonus rooms are big selling points. Even if you aren’t ready to sell yet, they are a good investment. Include a wet bar in your plans so you can have an entertaining-ready space for your gatherings.

Stone makes for a luxury wet bar. Combine it with glass for a contemporary look with functional appeal. Or try some bookmatched stone for the ultimate in elegance.
