The Latest Bathroom Tile Ideas

Finding a style that you like is the monumental first step to a bathroom remodel. Finding a good fit is half the battle. Take your inspiration from these bathroom tile ideas projected to be big in 2015.

Make the Floor the Focal Point

Beautiful tile floors will be the most important feature of the room in many bathrooms this year. Custom mosaics and medallions can make a floor special. Or try a specialty shaped tile (diamonds, ovals, or triangles) to make your bathroom floor a conversation piece. The picture above features an interesting floor with travertine planks and natural stone mosaic arranged in stripes.

Design Tile and Grout Together

Grout as a design feature will be hot this year. Designers fall into two camps when it comes to grout color: contrasting and matching. Contrasting grout will make the tiles stand out and highlight the individuality of each tile. Matching grout will create a cohesive look that makes the design look more continuous. The grout you choose can help you define the style you use in your bathroom redesign.

Use Gray

Gray will continue to hold a top spot in color design in 2015. This neutral color is easy to keep updated and will never go out of style. The softness of gray allows you to use it in large bathrooms or in several places in the bathroom without it being overwhelming. The stunning bathroom design below used gray, white, and black tiles from Daltile's Modern Dimensions series.

Reclaim an Old Favorite

Bathroom designers and homeowners are leaning toward recycled and reclaimed materials more and more. Luckily, tile designers have answered the call with barn wood-look tile and a vast variety of aged looking tiles and finishes.

Create a Bathing Retreat

Luxury in 2015 has a new face—big showers. Designers favor larger showers with floor to ceiling tile and no lips or ledges to trip over. The trend is functional, safe, and it looks good too. Be sure to select a tile that can withstand constant moisture and cleans easily.

Another trend in bathing design is freestanding bathtubs. Though the tub is separate from the wall, you still may want to consider installing a tile backsplash.

Include Geometric Designs

This year, a more linear design will reign. Whether you use classic tile in a geometric layout, or use a unique hexagon, octagon, or triangle—adding some distinct shape to your bathroom will put it right on-trend.

Consider layouts you might otherwise overlook like herringbone or a basketweave. And don’t be afraid to incorporate a unique tile as an accent to highlight the geometric look. The mosaic stripes carried through the bathroom design below give a geometric sense that creates harmony. Tiles used include Daltile Gallery ColorBody Porcelain tile in White and Orange, as well as a warm, reflective mosaic.

Get the Spa-Feel

A big trend in the coming year is the home spa. Who doesn’t want the luxury and relaxation of the spa right in their own bathroom? Install a living wall (vertical garden) in your bathroom to bring in the harmony of nature. Use natural stone tiles that introduce the textures and designs that only nature can produce. Put in wood-look tile so you can have the warmth of wood without worrying about how the moisture will affect it.
