Designing Luxe and Comfortable Guest Rooms

Casita: Forest Park in Timberland on the floor, Rittenhouse Square in Arctic White on the backsplash and Carrara Gioia marble on the countertop

The newest, hottest trend in home design is planning luxury guest suites in single family homes. Whether you want a mother-in-law apartment because your mom is coming to live with you or you have friends coming for the holiday season, a guest suite gives your friends and family a comfortable place to stay.

The trend has been growing for the last few years and it goes far beyond a spare bedroom. These suites are complete with a bathroom and kitchenette. Some even have luxury perks that ensure your house is better than a hotel.

Studio bathroom: Rittenhouse Square in Arctic White on the wall with Carrara Gioia marble on the vanity

Daltile helped outfit several guest suites in concept homes that debuted in January 2016. Here’s a peek at some of the most trend-forward guest suites you can replicate in your own home.

Pardee Homes, of TRI Pointe Group, partnered with BUILDER Magazine to create idea houses filled with designs that are accessible to regular homeowners. These homes weren’t the million dollar, out of reach concepts you’re used to seeing in idea homes. They were built with Millennials in mind. This first time homebuyer design had not one, but two guest suites.

Studio

The guest suite above the garage is a full studio with a separate entrance. It includes a roomy bathroom and kitchenette with convection oven and fridge and freezer drawers. The countertop material was added to a corresponding wall to create a dining table.

Casita

The concept home by Pardee Homes and BUILDER Magazine’s second guest suite is a mother-in-law apartment dubbed the casita. It is accessible from both the inside of the house and from outside. A full bath and guest suite kitchenette with convection oven and under-the-counter fridge round out its design.

The New American Home VIP suite: Season Wood in Snow Pine with Tiger Eye in Caspian on the feature wall, Tiger Eye in Caspian on the fireplace, Metallia in Stainless Steel on the mini bar

The National Association of Home Builders presents an upscale concept home each year called The New American Home. This year’s home featured a guest suite that went above and beyond traditional guest suites. VIP Suite

The guest quarters are called the VIP suite for a very obvious reason. It’s as luxurious as a five-star hotel within the comforts of your home. A large bathroom with soaking tub and a mini bar complement the VIP space along with a fireplace and spectacular view. The custom wall tile makes the space feel ultra luxurious so your guests can relax in style.
