Coastal Keystones in Treasure Island Block Random Mosaic
According to Cindi Pearce, product manager over mosaics at Daltile, mosaics don’t get the billing they deserve. Mosaics have come a long way and have their own set of advanced technology like "Blend by Reveal" that’s making them better than ever.
Three things popped out to us when we talked with Pearce that will change the way you think about mosaics today and moving into the future.
#1 Mosaics Can Go Anywhere
Mosaics aren’t just for backsplashes. Pearce says, “There are so many different ways you can use mosaics! They are easy to install and change the look of a room instantly.”
Most people don’t think much about using mosaic tile except in the usual ways, but they are one of the most flexible tile options out there. “Think shower floors, floors in general, tub surrounds, pool linings, walls, even fireplaces.” When installed properly, mosaics can go just about anywhere. *Be sure to install mosaics that meet a ≥.42 wet DCOF for all floor installations.
Pearce suggests that thinking about mosaics in a new and different way can open up a huge amount of possibilities. They can cover whole walls or be cut apart to add a subtle accent. They let you create a custom design without the custom price tag.

#2 Mosaics Stand Alone
Mosaics are not just an accent. Pearce comments, “The vast majority of lines we create at Daltile come with some sort of mosaic.” No matter what your design, you can augment it with mosaic.
There are some interesting shapes and sizes available now that let you cut loose with mosaic design. Everything from tiny ovals to elegant arabesque shapes and penny rounds to rectangles are interesting enough to stand alone as an accent wall or an interesting extended backsplash.
Larger mosaics—up to 3 inches—and extra tiny mosaics are gaining popularity today, especially when used in unique patterns like herringbone, basket weaves, or crosshatch.

#3 Mosaics Come in Your Favorite Looks
All those tile looks you love, like stone, wood, and textiles, come in mosaics—and they look good. “Tiles with these sort of graphics can look a little predictable, but Daltile’s technology takes the original graphic and blends and distributes it across the mosaic sheet so that it retains that authentic look,” says Pearce. That's the beauty of "Blend by Reveal".
Looking into the future, mosaics are taking a dominant position in design. Better technology and trend-setting style will continue to evolve mosaic tile. Keep a watch out for new mosaics coming soon with every Daltile launch in the coming year.
