Year in Review—2016

Daltile sponsored several show homes in 2016. One, the New American Home from the National Association of Home Builders built a home meant to represent all the best and latest in products, design, and trends. The BUILDER Responsive Home Project by Pardee Homes created two reimagined American Dream homes aimed at the up-and-coming Millennial market. All show homes represented segments of our market that we wanted to reach in a way that was unforgettable. And both delivered.

The Tile Experience

“Tile is a product that customers must experience personally. Pictures are great, but being able to see visuals up close, touch subtle textures, and compare samples to find the perfect fit is the best way to choose tile,” says Kim Albrecht, sr. marketing manager of Daltile Brand Marketing.

It also helps to see tile in application. Looking at a room covered with a tile is very different from looking at a single sample piece, or even a dozen pieces placed together. Just like real estate agents stage a house, Daltile stages tile to give builders, architects, designers—and ultimately the consumer—a better idea of what the tile can do.

Daltile presents tile through a variety of grouted panels, vignettes, and loose tile displays at showrooms and trade shows so shoppers can both see and feel our products as they make selections for their projects," says Tori Smejkal, marketing manager of Customer Experience. But the ultimate way to show tile is in a house or a commercial building. That’s why show home projects are so valuable to Daltile.

Ginga Guidroz, manager at the Dallas Design Studio says, “Seeing tile in person is key for seeing color and true movement but it doesn’t necessarily give the client the full effect.” She adds that, “photography usually helps people visualize what a tile will look like installed in a larger space, but with the opportunity to see tile up close and installed in a large space, it’s the perfect scenario.”

Tracking the Trends

Not only do show homes give us a chance to show tile, they also give us the opportunity to make a statement about the trends that are important to us.

For instance, The Responsive Homes weren’t just pretty houses, it was designed around the needs and wants of Millennials. Millennials want to live in the suburbs but they also want to “take elements of their urban lifestyle and 21st century ideals with them,” says Klif Andrews, president of Pardee Homes. “The Responsive Home Project is bridging this gap and inspiring young buyers to purchase a home at an attainable price point that offers the lifestyle they want.”

That means outdoor entertaining areas, open floor plans, attached garage, plus smart technology, sustainable construction, and modern functionality. That means all the best amenities without inflating the price out of their range.

Daltile provided tile flooring and wall tile for the Responsive homes that represented the Millennial mindset with easy-to-maintain and durable tile that delivers on style in a big way.

Next year, Daltile will sponsor even more show homes. Visit us at Surfaces and IBS to see what’s on the horizon for upcoming product launches. Then go visit some of our show homes to see our products the way they were meant to be enjoyed—living in a home.
