Daltile loves to be involved in our community so it was a pleasure to team up with The Dimension Group of Dallas, Texas to benefit some of the furriest members of our community.
The SPCA of Texas is holding its 26th annual Home for the Holidays adoption and fundraising event during November and December 2016 in Dallas. The fundraising portion, called the Bark + Build competition, asks local designers and builders who are members of the American Institute of Architects or TEXO, The Construction Association to make luxury dog houses for a raffle.
The designers at The Dimension Group sat down together to come up with a concept that was “unique, playful, and artistically interesting,” says Felicia Santiago NCARB LEED BD+C.
The design they finally agreed on, playfully called “Zee Bark Bench”, is a great place for a small dog to catch some zzz’s. It doubles as a bench that can dress up landscaping in the yard and give dog owners a place to rest too.
They used materials that were sturdy enough to stand up to the demands of dogs and the outdoors, but they are also lightweight enough that the bench can easily be moved by two people. 3form makes up the structure of the bench/dog house and Daltile’s River Marble in polished Smoky River adds some luxury and finishes the design. Santiago states, “The overall design accomplishes three goals: it provides shelter, a resting spot, and it adds an interesting design element to an outdoor space.”
As a full-service architecture, civil engineering, and MEP engineering firm, The Dimenson Group found it a welcome challenge to design on a smaller scale. They are also pet owners who know from personal experience what works and what doesn’t for dogs so this design is a blend of both the professional and personal.
